Video WIP

This is a Work In Progress - but here is our first ever public video recording of a Crosspoint Service.  We always hesitated because we couldnt be as good as the big guys.  We adopt a new philosophy now however - "dont worry - be crappy."  We will do the best we can with what we have unless it absolutely sucks.  Right now we are using vimeo because a) its free, b) its very good quality and c) its easy to embed on our website.  You cant podcast it though that I know of.  We'll fix that and upload a podcast too i guess.  This is pretty raw, one camera angle, no operator really, and I just edited out the on screen video because you couldnt see it.  I posted it Sunday.

You can go here and visit the channel to watch all future episodes.

Our tech people will perfect this - or at least make it better.  By the way - if you'd like to be on the technical team let Kenny know (kenny at moviechurch dot tv) and he'll hook you up.  No experience necessary - you just have to like toys.

Rated PG

The following video is rated PG.  Prude Guidance necessary.  Since our theme for hot topics was tropical I told people if we broke 200 I'd wear a grass skirt and coconut bra.  Father - Forgive my unbelief.  We broke that last weekend and then had even higher this weekend.  However THIS video may have made people wonder what in the world we are doing.

Sometimes I wonder what Im doing. Really the video had no point other than to entertain and show people I wasnt kidding when I said i'd do it. I still have to make good on my commitment live. Stay tuned. When we hit 100 I shaved my head. No telling what I'll do to get to 300. Anything short of sin!

Prison Break Opener

Today's Opener.  Literally we had about 20 takes.  And I almost locked myself in a cell like this.  It was crazy spooky because there was no electricity and it was DARK!

Monster Assault Video

Sorry I am late posting the video from Sunday.  I honestly think of all the "thrill" videos we did for Monster - this one thrilled me the most.  It was so moving to see how our church "happens" on Sunday.  Kevin did a great job putting this together with really terrible footage I shot one Sunday during the series.

We've done these kinds of video's before - but honestly this was the best one.  Here's an old one in our old building for reference.  Look how far we've come!

Energized!

Just saw tomorrows video.  It said more to me in a few minutes than I will probably say in 30 tomorrow.  Dont miss the finale of Monster - Energize your life.

Monster Racing

We showed two videos today for Monster.  Originally we were going to open the series with the first one - but the shoot got postponed because of the snow we had a few weeks back.  I believe God worked it out so we had to postpone because today was the right day.

Today's topic was the power of the Word of God - from Hebrews 4:12 - The word of God is alive and powerful.  I started the message with a clip from Days of Thunder showing the scene where Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) has to find his line and drive through a wreck.  Then I went to Psalm 119:105 Your word is a light to my patch and a lamp to my feet - i.e. its God's word that gives us the line we run in the race called life - run it and you will have the power to plow through the wreckage life wants to throw at you.

My main two points were - you have to KNOW the word and you have to DO the word.  As Morpheus told Neo in the Matrix - there is a difference between KNOWING the path and WALKING the path.  Then I referred back to NASCAR and the Tony Stewart car we had Easter Sunday and I gave a brief history of NASCAR.  Knowing about NASCAR is different than Driving one of the cars.  Then I showed this video

Yes, I drove a Sprint Cup car at Talladega!  I got the 6 lap package from Dale Jarrett Racing.  This was one of the most thrilling and terrifying things I've ever done.  I may post more details later about how it worked - but basically they give you a 15 minute class showing you where you line is and how your instructor  - who rides with you - will give you hand signals on what to do.

Then they drive you around the track in a dual cab pickup at about 90MPH and show you the line.

Then you suit up and when its your turn you get in your car with the instructor and take off.  There are up to 9 cars on the track at once.  You start out on Pit Road and by the time you leave you are going 55mph and then quickly go up past 120 on the apron through turns 1 and 2.  Down the back straightway you gain speed and then move "up" the track to take turn 3 and 4.  Then you are running and your instructor helps keep you on the line by giving signals to go "up" the track (toward the wall) or "down" the track (toward the infield)

By lap 4 I got over the sheer terror and just focused on the line and trying to gain speed.  On lap 5 I was doing good and came out of turn 4 headed into the tri-oval.  I was determined to make the next lap count - it was my last.

Suddenly just as I came out of the turn and started down the track to shave off part of the tri-oval and maximize my speed this happened.  Keep in mind, I am called "Pastor Magoo"

As I came out of the turn the instructor was indicating to me to slow down fast.  I let off the throttle and he had me go down the track farther than normal.  He pulled me all the way down to the apron and as he did I could smell something and then I could feel it.  The car felt like it was coming apart.  I wasn't sure what happened - but I knew it was bad.  After we came to a complete stop we got out of the car.  I shredded the right rear tire.  I talked to some of the crew and they said if I had done that in the turn - I would have spun and probably hit the wall.

I used the illustration to show that some people have things in their life that shouldnt be there and its taking them off the line they need to run.  Some people are headed for a wreck or a blowout that will cause them serious damage and they need to the power of the word of God to guide them.  If I didnt do what that instructor said - I could have wrecked that car and been killed possibly that day.  I followed his commands to the letter - and it saved our lives.  Thats what God expects from us.

It was a huge day at the track and I think it made a HUGE impact on our people.  I know it made one on me.  OH - and my top speed:  170.15MPH!  It was a MONSTER day I will never forget!  I cant believe what I get to do for Jesus!

Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

I am fired up about our next series at Crosspoint called "Prison Break"  I've been wanting to do this one for a while now.  We are going to do our best to make this series just as big as Monster because its just as important.  The gospel sets people free - but we live like we are in prison.  We are in bondage to religion, held hostage by our past. put in chains by our unforgiveness and locked up in the dungeon of addiction.

Here is the teaser we showed today (click here to go to youtube if your RSS reader doesnt show the link):
