Freaky Friday

This week's Jesus Freak of the Week is everybody who helps to get the 10,000 door hangers distributed.  The Party Starts at 5:00 at my house.  I'm hoping we can get over half of them done this weekend.  That will be a HUGE undertaking.  I know some are physically unable to do the work and some just read this blog because they are interested in what we do.  If you cannot participate - will you please pray for us this weekend.

Freaky Friday!

This week's Freak of the Week at Crosspoint (Yes, I actually cloned this idea from my friend Gary Lamb) is Leah Spooner.  Leah is a College student at The University of North Alabama in Florence.  She commutes the 40 minutes from UNA to Decatur to serve at Crosspoint and worship with her family who also serves tirelessly in various capacities in our church and community.  This is a family if Jesus Freaks to say the least!

Here she is looking a little freaky:

Leah

Leah gave up a week of her summer to come to the beach as camp counselor with our girls.  She even did some hairstyling for the guys!

Leah2

To say she has been helpful is an understatement!  She modeled Christ in everything she did here at our summer camp.  I sort of remember being 20 years old.  Most early 20's have checked out of their faith by the time they are Leah's age.  Its rare to find such a desire for God and a servant heart like Leah has.  Leah also serves in our KidZone Children's ministry and her family is encouraging to my family.  The exciting thing is there are 2 more kids coming up behind her that I believe will follow her example - and there were 16 kids here exposed to her freakish commitment to Jesus.

When you see Leah - tell her how AWESOME she is!  And when you see Jack and Michelle tell them that they can be proud of her and her siblings!

Freaky Friday

This week's Freak of the Week at Crosspoint is Jonathan Moral.  Jonathan has been with us since we were meeting in homes and has embraced the vision of building a church for people who don't like church.   As our only drummer Jonathan has been on stage at Crosspoint nearly every week since we formed a band years ago.  We had a couple drummers that rotated for a while but for various reasons they are no longer with us.  Jonathan has been faithful however to Jesus and the vision of our Church and rocks the house for Jesus week in and week out.

Jonathan

When we first formed a band, Jonathan volunteered to learn the drums.  I thought drummers were born - not self taught - but Jonathan purchased his own drum kit and picked it up fast.  He even invested in professional lessons from a drummer who played with Phil Collins - driving to Nashville weekly for lessons.  In addition, he supplies the mic kit we use for the house drums has been helpful in selecting sound equipment and working with our sound team to dial in the sound we need.  He even has a contact inside Shure (the microphone company) he calls from time to time who gets us discounts on returned equipment.  The funny part of this (to us) is the guy's name is Jesus.  If we need sound gear we simply ask Jesus.  Jonathan also serves on our Creative Team and invites his friends to Crosspoint.

Jonathan works for a local advertising company as an account manager and is an avid photographer.  He recently became an uncle when his Sister, Solita, had a baby; and his parents - Joe and Susan - are Missionaries in the Philippines.  When you see Jonathan, tell him you appreciate him and what he does at Crosspoint.

Freaky Friday

This week's Freak of the Week at Crosspoint is Jeremy Holmes.  It's hard to believe Auburn fans really love Jesus but Jeremy really does.  He and his wife Jessica (for some reason good looking girls dig balding guys) have their hands full with two little boys - Tristan and Samuel - but they still find time to serve at Crosspoint.  They both serve faithfully in our KidZone Children's ministry and are active in a small group.  Jeremy also headed up the manly mowing team at our Spring Avenue facility and even did little things like made sure the trash got out every week.

He is a HUGE part of our set up team and owns the stage set up crew.  He's got it down to about 15 minutes and then does whatever it takes to get the show going on Sunday.  Then when its all over - he works with his team mates to get it all loaded back up and stowed away for the next Sunday.   Jeremy is the kind of guy who you know you can count on to be the first one there and the last one to leave.  It's families like the Holmes family that make Crosspoint so much fun.  When you see Jeremy and Jessica - tell them thank you!

Freaky Friday

This week's Freak of the Week at Crosspoint is Anne Allen.  Anne works a full time job in another church but serves and does ministry at Crosspoint Community Church

Anneallen_2

Besides being involved in a small group, Anne runs our video, arrives early to set up video and just a couple weeks ago learned how to do the lighting system so she can set that up.  She also cares for toddlers in our KidZone at least once a month.  In short, Anne exemplifies the spirit of the volunteers at our church.  There is nothing that Anne won't do if we ask.  But she doesn't just do.  She is on mission and inviting people who aren't involved in church to come and check it out.  Our small group got email today asking that we pray for her friends she has invited to come this weekend.

People like Anne Allen are the reason Crosspoint is going to Rock this City.  Its not about the music (even though this weekend will be spectacular).  Its not about the video (even though this weekend will be funny).  Its not about the preacher (hopefully he won't suck)  Its not about the Starbucks coffee or seats with cupholders.  Its about people on mission to change the world.  When you see Anne this weekend give her a big hug and tell her "Thank You."

Freaky Friday

After last week its hard to single out a Freak of the Week at Crosspoint.  So many people are working so hard to make this happen.  The Freakiest Jesus freak we have though is Jack Alford.  Jack and his wife Pam moved to Texas with us when we attempted our first church plant and failed.  We decided to move back and start Crosspoint together.

Jack is a git-er-done person.  It doesn't matter how monumental the task - Jack finds people to make things happen.  From building portable cases, to teaching our older elementary kids, to leading a small group, Jack pours hours and hours into the ministry.  If you know the story of Jonathan and his Armor Bearer thats what Jack is like to me.  There is no task too big - or too small for Jack and Crosspoint Community Church would not exist without people like him

Jack is a Jesus Freak with a freaky beard to go with it.  Hard to believe he has a good looking wife so I got a picture of both of them to prove it.

Jesus Freaks of the Week

Lopez_2

Kenny and Debbie Lopez are the Freak's of the Week at Crosspoint.  I can not say enough about how much I appreciate this couple.  Kenny is a teacher at Cedar Ridge Middle School, Works on a Master's Degree at UNA, and Coaches a girls soccer team.  Debbie teaches at Decatur High and recently gave birth to a new baby girl - Amelia.  They also have a beautiful little girl named Abby.  They are the world's busiest parents and they still find time to lead our High School Ministry - CSI (Crosspoint Student Impact).  Debbie does all the hard work and Kenny - well I'm not sure what he does but since Debbie likes him so do we!  Seriously - they both do a fine job leading our student ministry and serving in other areas of the church.  Kenny also did an outstanding job preaching for me while I was gone last week.  Considering all they have on their plate - there is no doubt they are JESUS FREAKS!

I can't wait to go to the beach with them in July and you need to send your kids.  We'll bring em back different - and they might even be in one piece!

When you see Kenny and Debbie - tell them how awesome they are!!!

Jesus Freaks of the Week

The Freaks of the Week today are Dale and Lyndia Blanton.

Blantons

Dale and Lyndia have been at Crosspoint almost since we moved into our current facility.  They have seen us grow from 40 people to where we are now and bend over backwards to make Crosspoint a welcoming environment.  Lyndia has recent taken over as our First Impressions Hospitality leader and she has taken the Crosspoint Cafe to the next level.  In addition to making sure our guest are served piping hot Starbucks and refreshments, she also serves in KidZone.  Dale serves in our First Impressions ministry as a greeter and parking lot attendant.  Dale NEVER met a stranger - even though he's a little strange.  He also is an avid golfer and camper and loves to get with guys outdoors and have fun.

Whatever we ask - Dale and Lyndia are there and ready to jump in with BOTH feet and thats why they are the freaks of the week.   Thanks Dale and Lyndia - you guys ROCK!  (Also you will notice from the picture that Dale is living proof there is hope for ugly guys!)

Jesus Freak of the Week

Steve Pfeil (pronounced "file") is this week's Crosspoint Freak of the Week.

Photo0099

I picked Steve because he does whatever it takes to get something done in spite of some pretty serious health problems.  When we asked him to volunteer to run the video on Sunday morning he gladly jumped in and was flying solo in just a couple of weeks.  And he makes me look smarter than I am.  (Not that its really hard to do that).  Recently Steve stepped up and volunteered - without anyone asking - to run the sound board.  He just showed up one Sunday to learn how to do it.  He even brought his brother who has a degree in Music Technology by to play with the board and learn more about it.  After just a few weeks Steve sent us an email asking to be put on the schedule to run the sound MORE.

I love it when people say "I want to do MORE for God!"  Steve helped with our stage construction, volunteers in other areas, invites people to church, and is part of a great Community Group.   He's also a great encouragement to me in our work together at Mentor Graphics.

Steve is also lucky to be married to a great girl named Kelly.  They have one baby - a dog named Spike.  The reason Steve is lucky to be married to Kelly is that every once in a while she lets him drive her BMW Z-4.   The reason I am lucky is I get to ride in it sometimes.

When you see Steve and Kelly tell them how much you love them and how awesome they are!

Jesus Freak of the Week

This guys gets it.  He's active just about anyplace we need him to be.  Besides being a champion for Community Groups, Matt Pitts is involved in our hospitality team, student ministry, lawn care, facilities and the past two weeks has put in a truck load of time with our stage redesign.  He also invites his friends to Crosspoint.  On top of that he is the feature player in our Video this week for Mythbusters.  And you will DEFINITELY notice him in the parking lot this weekend.  Anyone who would put on an Easter Bunny suit and park cars is definitely a Jesus Freak!

Matt

When you see Matt - tell him thank you and that he has a nice tail.
